7 Key Qualities of a Successful Entrepreneur

Great article to be read by everyone. Suits for everybody, irrespective of entrepreneurs but exclusively for budding entrepreneurs.

Article Courtesy: By Ms.Kristine Geimure - 7 Key Qualities of a Successful Entrepreneur - In Young Entrepreneurs section.

"Kristine Geimure - Young Entrepreneur Kristine is a driven young entrepreneur and has started several successful businesses online."

Being an entrepreneur is about more than just starting a business or two, it is about having attitude and the drive to succeed in business. All successful Entrepreneurs have a similar way of thinking and posses several key personal qualities that make them so successful in business. Successful entrepreneurs like the ambitious Richard Branson have an inner drive to succeed and grow their business, rather than having a Harvard Business degree or technical knowledge in a particular field.

All successful entrepreneurs have the following qualities:

Inner Drive to Succeed
Entrepreneurs are driven to succeed and expand their business. They see the bigger picture and are often very ambitious. Entrepreneurs set massive goals for themselves and stay committed to achieving them regardless of the obstacles that get in the way.

Strong Belief in themselves
Successful entrepreneurs have a healthy opinion of themselves and often have a strong and assertive personality. They are focused and determined to achieve their goals and believe completely in their ability to achieve them. Their self optimism can often been seen by others as flamboyance or arrogance but entrepreneurs are just too focused to spend too much time thinking about un-constructive criticism.

Search for New Ideas and Innovation
All entrepreneurs have a passionate desire to do things better and to improve their products or service. They are constantly looking for ways to improve. They're creative, innovative and resourceful.

Openness to Change
If something is not working for them they simply change. Entrepreneurs know the importance of keeping on top of their industry and the only way to being number one is to evolve and change with the times. They're up to date with the latest technology or service techniques and are always ready to change if they see a new opportunity arise.

Competitive by Nature
Successful entrepreneurs thrive on competition. The only way to reach their goals and live up to their self imposed high standards is to compete with other successful businesses.

Highly Motivated and Energetic
Entrepreneurs are always on the move, full of energy and highly motivated. They are driven to succeed and have an abundance of self motivation. The high standards and ambition of many entrepreneurs demand that they have to be motivated!

Accepting of Constructive Criticism and Rejection
Innovative entrepreneurs are often at the forefront of their industry so they hear the words "it can't be done" quite a bit. They readjust their path if the criticism is constructive and useful to their overall plan, otherwise they will simply disregard the comments as pessimism. Also, the best entrepreneurs know that rejection and obstacles are a part of any leading business and they deal with them appropriately.

True entrepreneurs are resourceful, passionate and driven to succeed and improve. They're pioneers and are comfortable fighting on the frontline The great ones are ready to be laughed at and criticized in the beginning because they can see their path ahead and are too busy working towards their dream.

Winners never quit

It was in the late 2005, a legend in indian cricket was sacked from cricket captain post. He was forgotten completely. In the entire 2006 he was not allowed to play even a single international match. Everyone started to joke and treated him as a joker. The hero bounced back in a great fashion. A patient guy who has a great focus. Once decided no one can stop his going. He has the greatest will power, self-confidence and great amazing determination. Even lot criticized about his age and told that he don't have proper fitness, but he proved everybody whoever criticized as wrong, he made his talking through his batting. He is the PRINCE of indian cricket Mr.Sourav Ganguly.

When he can bounce back at his age fighting all the critics, comments, jokes why can't we bounce back from our failures.

A little girl - the 20th of 22 children, was born prematurely and her survival was doubtful. When she was 4 years old, she contracted double pneumonia and scarlet fever, which left her with a paralyzed left leg. At age 9, she removed the metal leg brace she had been dependent on and began to walk without it.By 13 she had developed a rhythmic walk, which doctors said was a miracle. That same year she decided to become a runner. She entered a race and came in last. For the next few years every race she entered, she came in last. Everyone told her to quit, but she kept on running.

One day she actually won a race, and then another. From then on she won every race she entered. Eventually this little girl - Wilma Rudolph, went on to win three Olympic gold medals. Surely from wilma's effort everyone should make a point not to quit whenever your are down rather fight back and make the failures quit from you.

He was MBA Marketing graduate from Loyola college. Started his career in TV Ads. Initially he acted in Chakra Gold Tea , Tantex Ads etc. That was in early 90s.He got an opportunity to act in telugu movie. He didn't get a break. But he didn't quit. He tried and got a chance to act in tamil movie. From 1990 he was trying to get a break and trying to establish his name in indian cinema. He became tired and sick but he didn't quit. Coming from a non-filmi background, he didn't had any godfather to boost him up. Even all his friends advised him to go back to his business. By his extreme trying and determination , it was in 1999 his movie 'sethu' released. He is Vikram a patient and cool headed person with lot of soft skills with him.

For the first 10 days there was no audience turn-over. But he was sure his hard-work will pay the price. After couple of weeks there was huge audience turn-around. Even he got the best hero award for his performance and the same movie was remade in telugu, kannanda and hindi later. Now he is one of the top paid actors in south india. All his wait has been made worthy.

Don't quit when you are 10 metres away from your victory.

Always don't wait for opportunities, create your own opportunities. Start working on your dreams implementation. Just keep working on your dreams and don't lose hope if things do not come along your way, just keep trying with determination, patience and make your wait worthy & become a winner by never quitting :)

Unidimensional Concentration

There is no alternative except preparation for success. There will be constant change in this world. Yesterday's scooters like Rajdoot,Luna,Lambherata are invisible these days. Similarly what you know now will not be in use in near future. Change is never ending process. Be prepared for the change and face it and overcome your chanllenges. Setting your mind ands focusing your mind towards your goal needs concentration, not just concentration its should be unidimensional concentration.Below i will discuss few interesting people's unidimensional concentration skills which makes them successful in whatever they do/implement.

It was in chicago when swami vivekananda was walking on the beach side , trained shooters were practicing to shoot ballons which was floating on the tide/wave. Those people couldn't shoot more than 2 balloons out of 10, they saw swami vivekananda and called him and asked him to try and inquired whether he was a professional shooter, he replied no. He shoot ALL the 10s and everybody there were stunned. The only & one and one & only answer swami vivekananda gave was concentration. Concentrate and focus on your task you can achieve what you need to achieve.

You know this person very well. He seldom speaks and he speaks no-nonsense. He can turn any match with his concentration power. He is the king of indian cricket Mr.Rahul Dravid. His unidimensional concentration examples include (to name a few) 181,204*,248,142 etc...ALL match winning knocks in test cricket. He was the person responsible to get india's victory in Australia after 27 years,England's after 22 years in their respective home soils. His another quality which doesn't shake his concentration power is, he never outdisplays his anger, frustration, tension, stress and by doing so he never gets distracted. Even when ferocious bowlers like waqar younis, shoaib akhtar, brett lee etc. will be absent(get tired) when dravid dictates with his bat. Your arm will broke as you can't bowl for 5 days to the same person who is tight and firmly grounded with his unidimensional concentration.

Its our time to improve our concentration, learn new things by throwing the laziness prevailing, ready to move upward in your life. Think about future, but do what you are supposed to do today. Dream HIGH! Achieve HIGH :)

Effect of Prayer

What will you do if everything you thought went into a flop. Things need to change. The only thing that can keep up your good work is prayer. A silent prayer in mind can work out magic to your ambitions. Whenever you are down with your health and when you visit hospital ,you will pray to the temple kept in the hospital. If no one readily can help you for any instant, a prayer is the one which keeps your hopes alive.

Whenever you are nervous, strain, stress with lot of disappointments an effective mind prayer is required. I remember an incident here while i was watching T20 world 2007 cup final, where 6 balls 12 runs were required, all my friends started to pray and in the TV the pakistan team manager was also praying even he was chanting some sloga/mantras. When Mishbal hit a six in joginder's ball the pakistan team manager and their team members started to jump in the air. They didn't know the strength of our prayer,if you watch again you can see only 1 person was praying in the entire pakistani camp, where as here there were lakhs and lakhs of people praying for indian victory. Then came the ball and hit into hands of sreesanth and our prayers were answered. This was an example given to insist how prayers can be effective in difficult situations.

So let all your prayers get answered and happiness start to prevail you always :)

Dreams or Fate ?

Dreams or Fate ? All human beings have dreams. But there are human beings who will constantly always oppose your dreams by projecting some unwanted silly things in front of you. If you succeed they will tell your hard work as luck and if you fail they describe your failure as fate.

If you try to channelize your mind properly, you will do only things that you need to do. Courage is the most important mental quality in life. If you try to learn from your failures, you will reach easily where you need to reach.

Just keep working on how to make your dreams into reality. The more you become your dream the more you are going to succeed. To be a good human being, you need to develop a good understanding skill. Always respect people and not position. Try to praise each one for their good work rather than criticizing.

Be a doer always rather than a watcher. Dreams can become reality if you try & execute your plans. Have a concrete plan of what you need to become and when you need to become that. Time is important. The time lost cannot be retrieved, each second is important, so utilize your time in a healthier way.

May all your DREAMS overtake your FATE and become real very soon :)

The Elephant Human Conflict

Elephants are GOD in India. If that is true why do we unneccessarily disturb it. By making it to stand hours together in the temple, bringing it on roads in festival time, bursting crackers in front of it, making use of it for begging. Is this a human value behaviour?

Please wake up. Also the elephant human relation conflict is one which i need to discuss here. Elephants need to stay in forest, but people kill it for its ivory cost, capture it and put it in circus cage, pain that can't be healed. An Elephant suffers much pain from human beings. Elephants have high memory capacity, very sensitive, very emotional but once you trouble it, it will definitely take a revenge on you.

Hunters kill mother elephants and take the calf to circus and train them. Separating calf from mother is the worst crime in the world. In South Africa people hunt through helicopters the elephants. Most worst ever happening thing in the world. Even they kill and eat their meat. In India, in West Bengal elephants come into the village for food as there is no space in the forest, if people destroy forests where do elephants go, they need space, shelter, food.

India a culture of heritage, but things dealing against elephants is very cruel. As a human being we need to respect elephants. If elephant is GOD then pray don't cause pain to it.

If elephants are going to be treated as how they are treated, then within few years elephant species will disappear and that will be a history and elephants will be seen in pictures and not in real.

Better Project Management

Some Useful tips for better project management.

Courtesy : Mr.Shiv Koirala's Article from Career Mentoring.

There is life outside projects....your life and your family.
Love your work but not your project or the company. Many developers after a certain amount of time become possessive about the project and the company. Do a professional job but don’t end up marrying the project or the company.

Try to come on time and go on time. So that you do not get saturated and work on the project for a longer time and effectively. Don’t become a zombie - nobody said on his death bed that he would have liked to spend more time in the office.

· Try to freeze your requirements before the start of the project. In practical scenarios it is very difficult to control the end customer. But if you can at least control the changes it will help you manage the project comfortably.

The best way to control changes is by taking official sign offs from the end Customer. As the saying goes, building quality software and skating on ice are both easy to do provided requirements are frozen.Do not try to be a hero in the project. Because heroes also have to go through all the hardships. So believe in distributing the load equally which is not only good for the project but also for you in the long run. Do not try to be an octopus - unfortunately you were born with only two hands.

· Every project has parasite developers.
In short every project has developers who constantly take help from others thus bringing down their productivity. Yes it is possible that they are your friends, but think for a moment - what’s smarter, giving a person one fish everyday from your catch or teaching him how to fish.

Step in to help others when they are stuck but you should know when to step out as well. There’s a thin line between helping somebody cross a tough hurdle and carrying
him on your shoulders - always be aware of this.If you are a developer avoid doing
their work from start to finish.

Yes, give them hints but do not do complete coding for them.
If you are a project manager you should analyze such kind of developers and take effective action at the very beginning which may even mean removing the resource from the project. Remember, your team is only as strong as its weakest link.

· Do not make projects your learning ground.
Customer’s pay heavily for making software so do not make it a learning ground. In many projects developers try to implement new technologies in mid of the project just by hearing jargons.

· Test, Test and Test. That’s the key to success for any software project.

· Do not hide your defects.
Developers are the best guys who know where the code will crash. Do not hide it, analyze and fix it. Do not cheat and leave the same till it goes to the end client.

· Avoid ego issues during the project.
Many times in a project developers and managers get stuck up with ego issues. Sometimes stepping back makes the project move further

· Tackle bigger problems of the project first. The best way to complete any project is to start those screens which are used by the customer more often.
For instance every project has non-frequent masters code them later and start the transaction screens first. Many time developers end up doing nitty gritty work and forget the bigger part of the project.

· Do not talk about stars. Every project starts with talking about stars but later ends up somewhere else.
Developers talk about concepts of OOPS, full database normalization, design patterns etc etc. These fundamentals are important but it should end up with only jargons. Some times practical deadlines make it impossible to implement these features. Keep yourself flexible and compromise with quality when you have deadlines…..believe me it’s not a sin if a customer is giving you unreasonable deadlines.

· Maintaining a right project hierarchy is very important i.e. the A model.
In a model you have one senior person at the top, project manager, team leader, senior developers and then juniors.
The right proportion of people from each grade is important. On any level if you have too much concentration you will have ego issue and promotion issues.Do not treat your project people as a resource. Project managers have this jargon of thinking of every one as a resource.

That’s bookish thinking; any one working in a project is finally a human being with emotions. The moment you consider them as a resource they will also consider you as a resource.
Moreover the word resource reminds you of water resources, mineral resources, oil & natural gas resources, etc which become empty some day - you get the point. In your own interests wipe off the word from your vocabulary.

· Make yourself visible. If you think you have done something good show it,
advertise it, make it visible. It will help you during your assessment.

· Avoid getting into project politics. Peace of mind is the most important thing.
Getting into egos and politics will only complicate things.

· If you are working in a maintenance project upgrade yourself time to time.
Change is the only constant in life - this is painfully true in the software industry more than anywhere else.

· In case you are maintaining some other developers’ code do not criticize the code.
Who knows in what circumstances the project was made.

· If you are a project manager in the project do not make it a compulsory rule that
you will never touch coding.Remember juniors respect their seniors only if they sit with them for development and understand their difficulties. This is a time tested rule - people only respect leaders who lead from the front rather than issue orders from the rear - don’t be a preacher, let your actions do the talking.

· If any resource is working on a project for more than a year his performance comes
down. Prepare a proper KT plan and bring in new resources and roll the old
resources off for some better prospects.

· Avoid unnecessary meetings.

Identify what makes the other person tick - for some it could be gaining technical
knowledge, for some awards, for others the lure of going onsite. Whatever it is, as a
PM it is mandatory you realize what makes people tick and utilize it for achieving
the end goal.

Proactive quality developers are like fast moving cars - you only need
to navigate them and they will reach the goal. Average developers need to be
pushed into action and monitored continuously, much like starting up a car and then
there are those whom you just cannot coax into doing their job, you may need to
inevitably remove them from the project much like sending broken down cars to the
garage - else you will end up spending your time and energy pushing these worn out
cars and get exhausted.

· Keep the team motivated - as a Project Manager this is one of your primary
responsibilities. Keep the environment relaxed and don’t impose unnecessary
restrictions. The occasional team outings, dinners go a long way in keeping people
happy - use the staff welfare budget wisely.

· Spend 80% of your time with the top 20% of the developers who are the champions
in the project. You will get more output generated in this manner. Don’t spread
yourself too thin.

· Assume that your best developers will not last the entire length of the project. Have a back up plan in place in case some of your best developers quit midway through
the project.

· Build leadership across your team across all levels. This will greatly help you in
handling bigger projects involving more than 50 developers. In this way you will
also indirectly help your key developers to become better leaders which boosts their
long term career prospects - building people is an ongoing exercise to be done on a
daily basis and not something to be remembered only during the annual appraisal
meetings.

· Handle people issues in a sensitive manner - people don’t care how much you know
until they know how much you care.

· Recognize & reward efforts - it could be a small gesture like presenting an ipod to a star performer but it means a lot to people.
You will end up building a strong and loyal team who rise to the occasion when needed. People will also realize that their efforts are being noticed - too many times it happens that people are working in isolation with no recognition for their efforts. Catch people doing something right - genuine praise for a job well done is one of the strongest motivators for people.

· Use delegation effectively - delegate the right tasks to the right people.
At the same time remember delegation is not abdication - you are eventually responsible for final delivery of the project.

· Be an empowering leader, scout for team members who are better than you are and
assign tasks respectively.
The best leaders are those who consistently surround themselves with people who are better than they are in a certain area and develop synergy towards achieving the common goal.

· Finally remember, TEAM WORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK

Learning Curve

Do you watch cricket? If yes, then do you watch Australian team performances. If 5 wickets fall also, then can hit 300+ runs and win the match. How is that always possible for them? The only answer for this is learning the skills and working on it to improve.

Seldomly people learn and they tell their learning time is over as they become little old. Very difficult to see people learning new things, they want to be with what they have and don't want to multiply their skills.

But we are going to discuss here some people who always keep up their learning curve.
Do you this person who earns each single minute thousands of dollars & sleeps 4 hrs per day and dedicates his life to his ambition? He is proud Bill Gates. Though he didn't have a proper full-time education in his life, he earned his learning through experimentations and experiences. Today he is the II richest person in the world.

Pray for me brother! the song sung by an indian for international market.Though had very difficult life but by his unidimensional and single-minded learning skills he redefined the music industry. Since he is a good learner, he welcomes new voices in his industry and make their learnings a meaningful. Am talking about the young music legend A.R.Rehman, who creates always magic in his music.

We are very stressed with a single job. But there are people who like and learn to do multiple jobs. A simple girl from south india who learnt music in her young age and participated in music programmes and identified by A.R.Rehman and given a break in cinema as a playback singer in 2002 and from then onwards there is no looking back in her career. She is Chinmayi. Also she learnt german, french, spanish and she is also holding a translation company, also into various professions like VJ/RJ/Pscyologist/Classical Dancer et. How can a single person achieve this much? The answer can be given by you if you increase your learning curve.

Also one person who silently speaks with his bat all the time whether the opposition is strong or weak, he can make bowlers frustrate. He has unique approach and technique and his learning is remarkable. Still he says he want to learn on hitting with reverse bat technique. Very smart, patient, acceptable always he is the WALL of INDIAN cricket Rahul Dravid.

Lot of problems will be occurring always in life. A problem can't overtake and stop your learning.Stress, failures, strains can be prohibited if you include interest and learning as your daily mantra. Good luck to your learnings for good earnings :)

Extra Sensory Perception (ESP)

One of the very best liked and interested topic of mine. Please read you will be also interested.

What is ESP?

The term "ESP" was used in 1870 by Sir Richard Burton. A French researcher, Dr. Paul Joire, in 1892 used the term ESP to describe the ability of person who had been hypnotized or were in a trance state to externally sense things without using their ordinary senses.

ESP - Extra Sensory Perception is the term used to describe a means of getting information from other than the five senses that everyone uses as their primary means. The five senses are seeing, feeling, smelling, tasting, and hearing. These are considered to be our 'normal' senses and any sense or gathering of information, is said to be 'extra', or out of the ordinary.

When a person develops their ESP, they have increased their mind power by a quantum leap above other people. It enables them to send and receive information almost at will to influence things that are important to them.

Esp is mental telepathy, our other sense. Mind reading, clairvoyance, precognition are all perceived through mental telepathy.Mental telepathy makes possible the "knowing" about past future or current events that is not supposed to be part of our knowledge. When someone demonstrates an ability to send and receive information that is not part of their five ordinary senses, it is placed in the realm of "extra" almost as though it was bizarre or abnormal and not part of the human psyche or sense abilities. However, telepathic ability is available to all those willing to practice and learn how to increase this talent that is given to everyone at birth.

Psychics and mediums use extrasensory perception. This is how clairvoyants, psychics and mediums know secret and private information about another person's life and are able to advise them.

Some of them discovered that they had the ability at a young age and some not until later in their life. But they all have one thing in common. They made a decision not to ignore it, but rather to improve and cultivate it through patience, practice and effort.

Many people can now benefit from their diligence and persistence in their own self development. By keep on fixing our ming to positive belief, positive outlook, positive thougt, positive focus we can get what we need to get.

Patience,Perseverance,Perfection tagged with Discipline,Determination and Dedication can bring you magic in your life....You can help in solving problems and you can become solution provider...

THINK! FOCUS! ACHIEVE!

Exercise and Fitness

Seen many occasions people want to reduce weight but they will not reduce their eating habits. Eat sweets, ice creams, junk foods etc. without doing any exercise.
We don't need to maintain the fitness the cricketers need to maintain nor the gymnastics person maintain, a simple exercise will fetch you a good fitness. Just morning jog/walk, respire inhale(type of yoga), skipping, push ups, sit ups which ever is possible by you to do.

1. Practice a well-balanced health diet with fruits in it.
2. Lots of water-based diet juice, tender coconuts will help in the place of sweets/coke/ice creams.
3. Don't eat less if food is not tastier nor don't eat more if the food is tastier. Eat balanced food with correct food timings. We can't sit and eat all the day.
4. Exercise is a must to keep a healthy body and active mind.

Avoiding doing exercises will liberate lot of health problems like back problems, High BP, Over weight etc..Consider doing exercise as a duty. In India Exercise & Fitness is not given importance as given in UK/US.. Our motto is not become body builder but build a better body ... From the picture find and implement whatever exercises that can be done by you..DON'T BE LAZY :)

UML - Part II

Unified Modeling Language (UML):

Lets look into the rest of important things in UML.

Flow Dig/Interaction Dig:

Mainly Sequence and Colloboration diagrams. You can draw either one first and you will have an auto-conversion to convert

into another diagram. Tools like IBM Rational Rose, Star UML etc. all have this feature.

Numbers can be indicated to denote the flow of steps in sequence diagrams.

Activity Diagram:

When use cases become complicated then activity diagrams can be used to represent it.

An Actor or Object -> Represented by a swim line.

Deployment Diagram:

This is mainly for onsite people, testing people.

Node (For Ex; Webform,Winform)--> Represents the client or server used.

Major Components in UML:

Component ->Can be more than 1 class (Also might be atleast 1 class & 1 interface).
Controls -> Are Visual Components
Service ->Business Object Handling (Example COM+ services which will do service components).

A Component should have a clear purpose. It represents implementation and exposes a set of interfaces.

COM+ --> Refers to Object Pooling. Like MinPoolSize = 3, MaxPoolSize=10...

UML - Part I

Unified Modeling Language (UML):

Unified Modeling Language (UML) is an Object Management Group (OMG) standard for modeling software artifacts. Using UML, developers and architects can make a blueprint of a project, much like ERD diagrams are used for relational design.

The UML is a language for specifying, constructing, visualizing, and documenting the artifacts of a software-intensive system.

Founders of UML are James Rambaugh, Grady Booch and Iver Jacobson from OMG.

The first version being UML 1.0 and now 2.1 being the latest version available.

Main categories come into picture in UML are:

1. Use Case Diagrams
2. Behavior Diagrams
3. Implementation Diagrams

Use Case Diagrams

Explains the broad area of functionality of a system.

Like Title – Ex: Railway Reservation System
Many Actors – Ex: Passengers, Administrators
Web-Clients – Ex: Microsoft Internet Explorer

All Use case name should be verb as it is a process.

Use Case Analysis:

Noun Analysis – Discover classes from Use Cases.
i.) One Use Case at a time
ii.) Focus on the nouns
iii.) Focus on non-actor nouns
iv.) Look into each noun

Ranks can be prioritized for Use Cases. Rank 0,1,2 will be for Non-technical users.

Differences between UML 1.* Vs UML 2.*

UML 1.*

1. Use Cases ->Analysis
2. High Level Design
· Class Diagrams
· Object-Oriented Flow Diagrams

Exception Handling .NET 2.0 - Microsoft Enterprise Library

There are lot of advantages if you use Exception Handling mechanism provided by Microsoft Enterprise Library for .NET 2.0 Framework

1. You can download the MSI Installer of Application Block for Exception Handlers from

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=5A14E870-406B-4F2A-B723-97BA84AE80B5&displaylang=en

The exception handling will catch the exceptions and make the developer to view as text file/ view the exception from event viewer of the system.

2. Add references to three DLLs to your project

Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Logging.dll
Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.ExceptionHandling.Logging.dll
Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Logging.dll

to your bin folder of your project.

Import the namespaces into your project

C#

using Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Logging;
using Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.ExceptionHandling.Logging;
using Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.ExceptionHandling;

VB.NET

Imports Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Logging
Imports Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.ExceptionHandling.Logging
Imports Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.ExceptionHandling

3. Wherever you have your catch blocks in your aspx page make this alteration

C#

catch (Exception ex)
{
ExceptionPolicy.HandleException(ex, "Log Only Policy");

}

VB.NET

Catch ex As Exception
ExceptionPolicy.HandleException(ex, "Log Only Policy");

"Log Only Policy" ----> Is the key value which will be coming from web.config

4. In order to catch exceptions in event viewer, please follow these settings

Go to Web.config

Step 1 :

Step 2 :

Step 3 :

Above steps will make the error available in your Event Viewer.

To see event viewer error logged, go to start-settings->cotrol panel->Administrative tools->Event viewer-Application->Logged Error.

Windows Authentication in ASP.NET 2.0

In ASP.NET 2.0 Development environment while connecting
with SQL server 2005 you will be always using SQL Server

authentication. For Internet applications SQL Server authentication is advisable, but for Intranet applications you need to use

Windows Authentication.

Lets see how to adapt that:

1. Go to your SQL Server 2005
2. Search for Security (will be lying below)
3. Inside search for Logins
4. Add New-->>Login name:
5. Login name should be your NT user name
6. After adding the user name (for ex: if you have added Mike as a new user), then select Mike, right click properties & reach properties and go to server roles & select sysadmin and click OK.
7. Before clicking OK button ensure you have selected the appropriate required DB.

In Web.config change the connection string , that is remove the user name, password and make Integrated Security as true.

Sample :

add value="Data Source=Your SQL Server 2005;Initial Catalog=DBName; Integrated Security=True" key="MyConnection"

Your SQL Server 2005-- Can be in your machine(put then localhost) (OR) in a different network then put address of SQL

Server 2005 (like 10.10.10.10 (for example)) there. 'key' value refers to the connection string name to be used across .aspx

pages.

Thats it!!! Windows authentication in ASP.NET 2.0

Successful Living

Few rules for life:

1. Take time to dream (remember, most great achivements were once considered impossible).

2. Think often and deeply.

3. Treat others the way you would like to be treated.

4. Say thank you and please, a lot.

5. Greet each day with a smile.

6. Never argue with an idiot, those who are watching will not be able to tell the difference (never wrestle with a pig, you will both get dirty and the pig likes it).

7. Choose to be happy.

8. Make a commitment to excellence(remember, if you do the things today that other won't do, you will have the things tomorrow that others won't have).

9. Be grateful(remember,if there were no problems there would be no opportunities).

10. Love life. Have Fun. Never underestimate the power, potential and possiblities of the human spirit, Life really is a blast.

Have faith, believe and remember that the sky truly is the limit. Always reach for the sky and if you miss you will be among the stars :)........

Excellence Vs. Perfection

Practice makes perfect. But we donot need perfection. We need to be consistent. Actually practice makes improvement. The goal is to be better today than we were yesterday and to be better tommorrow than we were today.

The world's youngest man to receive noble prize Late Martin Luther King Jr. famous quote should be kept always in mind while doing your job, which is really a thought to be thought by everyone.

"If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as Shakespeare wrote poetry or Beethoven composed music or Tendulkar hit century. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause and say, 'Here lived a great streetsweeper who did his job well.'"

Strive always for excellence, not perfection and always try to better your best.

Bangalore Rain & Me

It was quite a thrilling day for me. I with my friend went to big bazar, koramangala to purchase things for home. When both were standing on the left side to cross the end , it started suddenly raining & both me and my friend were fully wet. I crossed the other end of the road, the rain suddenly stopped.

Is rain continuously targeting me ? I wonder whenever i get washed with rain after that next moment rain stops, oh my god why can't you save me from this bangalore rain. Continuoulsy hat-trick, 3 days rain over my head, rain wins always :)...

Raining is good, but it will be good if it rains after 11 PM then stops before 7 AM, just wondering and writing this article after again got wet over rain after my lunch.

Technology Vs Marketing

If i ask you which is important for a car? Brake or Tyre ? ...Like that which is important for a software company Programmer or Sales person?.. As well known American proverb goes "Nothing is free", both of them @ the end of the day need to generate revenue.

If you take Microsoft corporation, how whatever products of Microsoft has been automatically dominating the market ? Is that because of good Marketing or good Programming ? The debate continues and big fight extends.......

If you can bring a Marketing guy with programming background then you have more probability that you will win large number of contracts as he/she will understand the technology and will get a hold of whats happening. But in real scenarios we don't get everytime a marketing guy with programming background.

A marketing person has a tough time everytime he/she gets a contract and he/she will be in uptight position till the contracts ends well and proper money has been generated.

Marketing is a skill where you need to put trust, confidence first and money next. A marketing person should be able to accept the client based on mutual understanding with his/her soft skills and business etiquette and take client's assignment as his/her assignment. A marketing person is always in constant danger as anytime anything can go wrong, he/she can have the control upto getting you a project/contract.

Thereafter the developer/programmer should take it forward. The programmer can't take things lightly as it might end up in disater results. Though programming is science it is actually art, good practices and good programming makes feel proud a programmer, not only upto programmer, to marketing team, to the management of the company.

So if the marketing team succeeds, it will not be always visible to programming team & other teams, but that is not the case for programming team, every nook and corner hi/her success will be visible. A good programmer is like a DOLLAR COW, gets more & more $$s. Ideally the marketing and technology synchronization is in the hands of recruiting team and the recruiting team is in the hands of management of the company, the management of the company is in the hands of good attitude people.

So to conclude for a car brake & tyre is important, Marketing members are like tyres they can get you assignment and Technology team is like brake, you need to work it out properly and HR team is like manufactures of the car :)...Well you can be doing marketing or programming, but you need to be true to your job :)....The debate continues ..........

Attitude

You have a plan to achieve, but circumstances are very against you. Neither anybody listens you nor no one is there to help you out. There is extreme failure on your shoulders. All your mighty plans are ending up with zero solution.

You have only one thing with you and that is attitude, that is the one that makes you to come back in a great fashion. To get a winning attitude we need to include in our blood group 1. Motivation 2. Concentration 3. Persistence 4. Preparation

Motivations can be categorized as external & internal motivations. If others make you to inspire then that is external, but each time you can't get a supporting hand for you, as the great Infosys Mentor Mr.Narayanamurthy, the entrepreneur of 21st century says "LEADERSHIP IS LONELINESS", rough times will be solo, where as soft time will be lot of people with you.

Always be internally motivated yourself, see the things as interesting aspect rather than loosing focus and getting out when you have reached your 95%. Maintain an inner controlled maturity over yourself and your doing so that you will be doing only what you need to do and no nonsense will be liberated by you.

Concentration is attention to your mind by brain. What you think must be mutually agreed by your mind and brain, when your mind & brain are in line then that is concentration. The great wall of india, Rahul Dravid has lot of concentration, a person born to be shown as an example of concentration. He bats all the 5 days in the test match and makes bowlers arm pain :)

Persistence means trying, trying till you win. Only determination coupled with persistence can reach you great horizons. But all the above factors conclude under a single nut shell called "ATTITUDE".

A fine example for an attitude:

"When it rains all the birds occupy shelter. But Eagle is the only bird which avoids the rain by flying above the clouds. Problems may be common to all but ATTITUDE is the only thing which makes you unique & happier at the end of the day".

Be Focused

Never take things lightly. It can be very dangerous and many times people who take things lightly, suffer a lot. A simple example here is the Mumbai Test match(in late 2006) where our team took the English team lightly, due to the absence of major players like Trescothick, Vaughan, Harmisson (who missed out the last match). What the final result was that India were bowled out for 100 and England managed a series draw. That's because of not taking things seriously and absence of focus.

The reason for failures is lack of practice, taking things lightly without any proactiveness and absence of focus. India has many-many Arts, Commerce, Science and Engineering colleges in India - In fact Management institutes (Hotel, Business, etc.) are increasing day after day. But we notice a drop in Medical colleges as the focus required for MBBS is much longer. I am talking about a degree of 4.5 years, an Intership of 1-1.5 years, then practise study for 2-3 years and total Doctor would be studying for a period of around 10 years - the longest focus period required. A Doctor can never take things lightly. While Engineers play with Machines, Journalists play with words, Accountants play with numbers, Doctors play with Human lives. They have to have 100% focus in their task at all times. We don't need to be as proactive as doctors, but should be try and focus at least 50% of how much they do. There is no alternative to preparation in the real world for achieving success.

There are people who focus only on their goal and attain that without taking things lightly even for very small things. Bill Gates was a school drop out and he suffered a lot at that time, but he did not take things lightly. With extreme focus, he planned and executed his dreams and now he is the richest man in the world. That is not only because of work, but also because of his hard work. Gates used to sleep only for 4 hrs in the late 90s. Today, whatever product Microsoft develops, is automatically marketed. That is the power of focus.

Mistakes are bound occur as we all are human beings. But only few accept to mend the mistake. Failures are not the end of our part, it only takes some updates for your optimum success. Focus on your goals and with proper discipline and determination you can implement your dreams.

The Challenge

This blog discusses one's mindset and fighting spirit. The Germans and Indians are known as the best fighters around the globe.

When your interest, involvement and effort is at the highest, then you will be the BEST. If you are prepared to learn from your failures, you can easily reach where you want to.

Courage is the most important mental quality in your life. If you try to discipline your thoughts, you will see things happenings around you, in a disciplined manner.

If you channelise your mind properly, you would do things what you need to.

The fire that should burn in your heart will lead to greater heights. Challenges in life are there to test how much you can fight and how fit you are. Sustained and dedicated efforts will bring you the footsteps for your success.

In the late 1970s, those who wasted a lot of money for India's technological development, were motivated by Vikram Sarabhai. In the late 1980s, the same task was re-invented and helped gain more money for India. This feat was achieved by none other than our honourable APJ Abdul Kalam. Challenges are broken into pieces by individuals like these.

If you face a challenge with full courage and put in a good effort, ironically you then become a challenge for the challenge!

In 1989, there was this little chap who was teased and commented on by Pakistani media and spectators alike. They said, "He does not know how to handle the bat, how will he face Pakistan's bowling battery?". There were more unwanted words targetted towards him, yet he never let it affect his mindset. Today that young chap is the demi-god of Cricket. I am talking about Sachin
Tendulkar.

Another interesting story goes about this young man, who was once asked not to touch a steering and was warned that if he did it again, he would be dead. This young man's right thigh was in bad shape and not fit to don racing gear. But due to his self-confidence, his challenges were broken and he went on to set a world record of 7 Formula 1 wins. This is the legendary Michael Schumacher.

Leander Paes. Even after coming back from a scary Brain surgery, he is wonderful on the court and makes crowds marvel while he and Martina Navratilova go about their matches.

Challenges can be of any form. They can be in the form of injuries, fear, disapproval, discouragement or death in focus. Why we can't fight them like the above mentioned people have? After all, we are all human just like them. We walk, talk and behave no differently. Yet, their thinking is so different and so positive.

Open your eyes; enlighten your mind; explore your views; reach your destination. Be what you are. And if you ask what for? Well, the spirit to fight has to be be there. Don't quit, if you fight your challenges, then your challenges will quit.

Get Inspired

Whenever you fail, it means you have not performed to your potential. There are some people however, who perform their very best and bloom, blossom and put in their 200%.

Whenever failure brushes them, they make their own destinations and script their own HISTORY. This article here will talk about such people.

Would you guess the name of this person, who was arrested in the mid 90's. All her positions were captured and she was almost led to stand alone extreme failure. No one know if she could rise again and nobody believed she could. But she had other plans. did not lose confidence and fought back. Today, people who are elder to her, respect her. She is none other than the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, Ms. Jayalalitha. A true magic women of India, she surely strikes us as an inspiring icon.

The GREAT WALL OF INDIA! Rahul Dravid is one man who will not speak in words, but prefer to talk with his bat. He is known to be an extremely patient man who can Bat for 365 days, if the Test match format would allow him to! He has battled and frustrated all the great bowlers from Waqar Younis to Glen McGrath. The fact that his only competitor is himself (there really is no one like Dravid in Cricket today), makes an amazing feature and a truly inspiring aspect.

This person didn't have a room to stay when he first arrived Mumbai, with dreams to make it big. He stayed at Pune for sometime and would spend 7 hours for travelling between Pune <-> Mumbai. The stress almost created a dent in his belief and he finally decided to become a teacher (which was his second ambition), but his first ambition was acting. He never gave up hope and finally got a break in a serial in Doordarshan. Today he is one of the hightest paid Actors of India. Yes, Shahrukh Khan rules the Box Office today. His dedication towards work and choice of scripts has made him the King Khan.

Next, a native of Calcutta (Kolkata). During School days, he would walk for 35 minutes from Home to School, to save the Bus fare his Father would give him. His habit to save apparently started from then. He comes from a Middle class family. Though not a brilliant student, he was always accurate and knew things he needed to know in his knowledge. He had a good know-how of planning and execution. His belief in himself has taken him to being the THIRD richest person in the world. He is Laksmi Mittal. A successful entrepreneur, business man and another insiration to all.

And finally, this Lady celebrated her 85th Birthday recently. She debuted at the age of 13. Even today, her voice is magical and melodious. Her recent performance in Veer Zaara (the record sakles of which, were the highest) won her more appreciation. Isn't, Lata Mangeshkar an inspiration to all?

There are many more who inspire. Many more examples to be given, but it is your time to join this list. If you learn from your mistakes, control yourself and work with full dedication, determination and discipline, you too will become an icon of INSPIRATION. That day is not too far - ALL THE VERY BEST!

Sacrifice

Everyone who knows about the Mahabharata, would know that when Lord Krishna asked Duryodhana about the people in the world. He replied that all were bad and cruel. When the same question was asked to Yudhisthira, he replied the people of the world are all good, kind, helpful and lovable. The point here is, the way you framed your mind, that is how things will always appear to you. If you always take things positively, all difficulties will be appear as opportunities and if you keep negative thoughts in your mind, then all opportunities will become difficulties.

Keeping your mind-set positive could mean sacrificing certain things for some a good cause. When people watch Cricket on the Television, watch Movies at a Cinema Hall or the comfort of their living rooms, basically when people are enjoying, there are a few people who are risking life and limb for us. Our brave jawans are in constant danger.

Yes, there appears to be a thaw in India - Pakistan relations, but the reality is, that still there are bombs being planted across the country and the danger still looms large. Amid such scenarios, our soldiers protect us at the border, sacrificing everything for our country and for us. WE SHOULD SALUTE THEM.In today's competitive world, to be ahead, we need to keep working harder and smarter.

For example, Google Inc., which was started by a small group is now becoming a vital and rightful competitor to Microsoft. All this due to hard work and sacrifices. They are a positive organization, which ensures that the growth is positive as well.

To put in a positive effort, we need to make a few sacrifices. We must reduce our laziness. If there is some task that is too ardouous, we need not still struggle with it. We stop it for a short while by doing something like may be helping someone younger to you in their studies. These are sacrifices you make, that results in positive growth.

Also the sacrifices made by our former President APJ Abdul Kalam are not small in any way. He has worked tirelessly in almost all defense sectors and Aerospace Engineering divisions for India. He never married, instead dedicated himself to science. He is one of the most respected and humble living legends of India. His sacrifice is simply GREAT. We cannot aim for sacrifices like great people like Mr. Kalam, Mother Teresa, Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, etc. We are all career driven people. However, we can surely aim for sacrifices that help us raise our own standards, which helps raise the standards of the people we work with.

People often say that Cricketers in India are given too much of value and regard. I agree to that in part. There are some people who deserve all that they receive. Sachin Tendulkar has given several sacrifices and made efforts constantly. Even the legendary Don Bradman once said that the reason why Sachin is amazing is the fact that at any given time, Sachin is always willing to learn. He is prepared to be a loyal student of the game always.Sachin, a man who has damaged almost all his bones, is still making runs effortlessly. Can anyone make a sacrifice like Sachin on the field? If you learn new things each day and keep making small sacrifices, you will carve a better future.

The Power of My INDIA

I would like to begin by informing everyone that my intention is not to discourage, degrade or criticise India. This article is meant to provide us methods to make India the number one country in the world.

India is famous for:
1. Population
2. Heat
3. Illliteracy
4. Cheating
5. Crime
6. AIDS (India is placed second to Africa) Wait, there is still much more.Today our population is 100 Million, yet we cannot win a single Olympic medal. Even in Cricket, which is the most popular game here, we haven't won a World Cup since 1983. Don't we have what it takes to win? Don't we have the "going for the kill" spirit like Australia?

A few important reasons that are degrading India:

1. There is lack of quality in work. Right from the production of Toothpaste, to manufacture of Shoes, all products lack 100% quality. Profiteering has rampantly over-taken quality and low quality products are all over the market.

2. There is absolutely no involvement towards progress from our political leaders today. What makes matters worse is that they are ever-ready to blame others for the mistake that they may have made just a few months ago.

3. There is hardly any recognition for talented individuals. Everything here works due to recommendations (Sports, Corporates, Educational institutes, etc.). There are talent shows all over Television today, but even those are due to the vested interests of Media-houses.

4. Corruption is rampant. It seems as though cheating others has become a normal happening. This is most definitely not a good sign.

India in comparison with other countries:

I don't know for how long is everyone going to say, "India is a developing country". When will India become a DEVELOPED country? Several other countries which were spoken of in the same category as India have developed. Their infrastructure and advancements are truly remarkable. JAPAN is an example that comes to one's mind. In 1942, Japan was bombed and a really huge impact was made. Some said that even Grass would never grow in the effected areas. Today, Japan is world number 2 in economy. Other such countries are, TAIWAN, KOREA, SINGAPORE etc. Not so long ago, Tokyo was no different from our very own Mumbai (Bombay back then). Today, Tokyo has evolved as a leading City and one of Asia's most developed Cities.

Steps to make India a WORLD Super-power:

Step 1: Encourage talented people in every field. This will ensure that the laziness that has occupied our genes will be flushed out and habitual activity will prevail.

Step 2: The money of Tax paying citizens should be effectively used for its real purpose. Usually it ends up in the pockets of dishonest politicians. It should actually be utlised for construction and development of better roads, railway tracks, and basic infrastructure building. Bridges and community help centers should be maintained and preserved after their GRAND INAUGURATION.

Step 3: A standard for all products should be maintained. 100% quality HAS TO BE a must to ensure that the Indian market can compete with other countries. We can only see non-indian bikes dominating the roads. Whats does this depict? It depicts that we INDIANS DO NOT KNOW HOW TO MAKE A DECENT BIKE OR CAR. Also, that if we do make any such product, the quality is not 100% effective.

Step 4: Law should be clear, strict and equal for all. Why is it that the common man, once stuck in a legal issue, keeps sinking further and further down? And why is it that a notorious political leader can go scott free, despite commiting nefarious crimes? Rules should be followed strictly by all Indians

Step 5: Discipline is the key to success. If we discipline ourselves, our peers will follow. Discipline doesn't mean just abiding by laws and staying away from anti-social activities. Discipline has got a lot to with self-improvement. We must take care of things that may seem small and meaningless, yet when done in a big way and followed by everyone, it makes a huge difference.

We all should take this as a target, a goal, an ambition and work towards it. Us being working professionals should concider this as an on-going project. The task is to make a better India. A great India. An India that is the envy of other Super-powers. An India where we all are happy and content.

WORK FOR YOURSELVES, YOU ARE WORKING FOR INDIA.

VANDE MATARAM
